The Trifecta

What Is the Endo Trifecta?

Many people living with endometriosis experience what’s often referred to as the Endo Trifecta.  A combination of three debilitating symptoms:

  • Painful periods (dysmenorrhea)
  • Chronic pelvic pain (outside of periods)
  • Painful sex (dyspareunia)

This trio of symptoms is common amongst endo patients and is one of the most telling indicators that something more is going on. Yet, the trifecta is frequently misunderstood or dismissed, both socially and medically.

Nerve relation

How does endometriosis affect nerves?

Endometriosis can directly and indirectly affect the nervous system.

The direct effect: Endometriosis tissue can grow close to and even on nerves.

The indirect effect: Inflammation from endometriosis lesions can irritate nearby nerves and tissues.

These are both common causes of lower back pain and leg pain.
